Introduction
This guide is meant to help new patients and customers understand what to expect from our practice (Dan Purser MD) and give a detailed explanation how we utilize a distinctive practice of medicine. The goal of Dan Purser MD is to test, improve, and maintain through natural and modern therapies to offer unique solutions for every patient.
There is a lot of information ahead, but we have broken it down into sections to help guide you through. If you have any questions while reading, please contact us anytime (please see contact information below) and one of our staff will happily assist you.
The various topics detailed in this guide are laid out as follows:
Our practice physician, Dr. Purser, conducts both in-person and telemedicine appointments. In order for Dr. Purser to be able to prescribe any prescription medications, he will need to see you in person at least once a year. Fortunately, our practice uniquely discovers the individual’s needs by analyzing genetics and appropriate blood work often shining light on vitamin and mineral deficiencies. From this personalized approach, Dr. Purser is able to work completely over telemedicine reducing the amount of prescriptions required!

Good Nutrition In Equals Good Hormones Out
Testing Offered Through Dan Purser MD
Intracellular Micronutrient Testing
One of the easiest and most important ways to get a snapshot of your current vitamin levels is through a Cellular Micronutrient Assay from Cell Science Systems. Intracellular means that this test looks at all levels of key vitamins and minerals inside your cells, not just the levels in your blood. Looking at these deficiencies gives you an idea of how healthy your cells are and what you need to know to help them get better! Healing cellular deficiencies has amazing overall effects on your body and is the most effective way to start working on your chronic fatigue, anxiety, depression, and so much more.
Why use the Cellular Micronutrient Assay Test?
Cellular Micronutrient Assays provide the most comprehensive nutritional analysis available by measuring functional deficiencies at the cellular level. It is an assessment of how well the body utilizes over 100 vitamins, minerals, amino/fatty acids, antioxidants, and metabolites, while conveying the body’s need for these micronutrients that enable the body to produce enzymes, hormones, and other substances essential for proper growth, development, and good health. Your test results also include food and supplement recommendations based on reported levels.
Intracellular
What truly makes this test unique is that it measures the functional level and capability of micronutrients present within white blood cells, where metabolism takes place and where micronutrients do their job—thus taking a person’s biochemical individuality into account. Unlike static serum measurements, which only assess the concentration of nutrients present outside of the cell (extracellular) and only provide a glimpse of your health, Celular Micronutrient Assay is a long-term assessment (4-6 months) that addresses the functional impact (performance) of micronutrients.
Why is nutrient status important?
Virtually all metabolic and developmental processes that take place in the body require micronutrients. Strong evidence suggests that subtle vitamin, mineral, and antioxidant deficiencies can contribute to degenerative processes such as arthritis, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.
Therefore, evaluating micronutrient status can be the first step in identifying metabolic inadequacies while shedding light on the possible underlying causes of complex chronic conditions.
Cellular Micronutrient Assay with Antioxidant Protection Assay by Cell Science Systems
The Cellular Micronutrient Assay (CMA) is your tool to assess and address insufficiencies in micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) as well as amino acids, and other nutrients within immune cells. This is a reflection of long-term nutrient status not just a “snapshot” as is seen in serum nutrient tests.
CMA Testing is very similar to SpectraCell’s Micronutrient panel but provides several key benefits that SpectraCell does not.
It looks at 100 micronutrient, amino acids, and antioxidant data points, not just 37.
CMA testing is $100 cheaper than SpectraCell
The results return time is much quicker, 2 weeks vs 4 weeks.
Currently, Dan Purser MD is making the transition to this intracellular micronutrient testing.
Genetic Testing
The Cellular Micronutrient Assay looks at current vitamin and mineral levels, but genetic testing looks at what may be causing these deficiencies. Your genes code for sequences of amino acids that are put together to form proteins. Some of these become enzymes that are the workbench catalysts of our cells adding and taking away from molecules.
Sometimes genes are passed on that may have errors leading to less efficient enzymatic activity creating problems. A common set of genes with errors are the genes connected to the methylation enzyme called MTHFR (methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase). The purpose of the MTHFR enzyme is to convert folate (Vitamin B9) into the methylated form that is then used in the energy production cycles of the cell. Less efficient enzymes cause less energy output to power the cell leading to overall systemic inefficiencies.
Obtaining your genetic results is a great way to know where to start supplementing with key vitamins and minerals to support your enzyme activity and bypass parts of the methylation cycles. Everyone's a little different so understanding the blueprints of your genetics helps you know what to focus on and that is how our practice can help you all along the way!
Foundation Methylation Genetic Kit and MTHFR Gene Variations
The Foundation Methylation Genetic Kit is designed to look for the specific SNPs (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms) that control the production of the MTHFR enzyme and determine what deficiencies may be causing them.
Everyone receives one copy of the MTHFR gene from each parent. This means a person could have any one of the following combinations as well as the issues that go with it:
Normal / C677T (referred to as Heterozygous)
More susceptible to neuro-immune syndromes, environmental damage, depression, central nervous system issues, etc.
Normal / A1298C (referred to as Heterozygous)
More susceptible to neuro-immune syndromes, environmental damage, depression, central nervous system issues, etc.
A1298C / A1298C (referred to as Homozygous) - Denoted as 1298CC
Much worse for the above problems
C677T / C677T (referred to as Homozygous) - Denoted as 677TT
Similar to 1298CC plus heart disease, blood clots, and more
C677T / A1298C (referred to as Compound Heterozygous)
Susceptible to all of the above and worse for strokes, heart disease, blood clots, etc.
Some of the common symptoms we see with MTHFR Genetic Errors are:
Dopamine Deficiency Symptoms
Serotonin Deficiency Symptoms
Mood Disorders
Chronic Fatigue
Immune Disorders
Detoxification Weakness
If these sound like something you struggle with, order your kit today and start feeling better!
Pro7 Comprehensive Genetic Testing
Our Pro7 Comprehensive Genetic testing and report covers everything from our Foundation Methylation Genetic Kit and much more. The Pro7 Comprehensive Genetic testing covers seven specific areas of health: (1) Methylation, (2) Neurotransmitter Processing, (3) Mitochondrial Function, (4) Detoxification, (5) Neuro-Inflammatory Potential, (6) External Inflammatory Potential, and (7) Health Precautions.
This test looks at 55 gene variants for SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms). The MTHFR variations listed above are a great example of one part of this test. By having just one amino acid out of place or swapped for another, the efficiency of those enzymes can vary drastically. Looking at the genes that cover the seven areas of health above can provide profound insight into your health and wellbeing.
The point of genetic testing like this is to know what specific areas to focus your nutritional guidance both by eating certain foods and supplementing with the correct versions of key vitamins and minerals. Genetic testing with a CMA Micronutrient Assay will give you the greatest insight into what your cells are craving now.

In 2017, we launched our own line of supplements designed by Dr. Purser and his formulating partner, Stephen Pitcher, called Physician Designed. The first, and best-selling product, was VARS Liposomal Glutathione. VARS Liposomal Glutathione is the first patented glutathione product to deliver a purely reduced glutathione supplement. The trick is to keep the glutathione away from oxygen during the entire manufacturing process to preserve the reduced state of the molecule. Such a simple innovation, but truly revolutionized the glutathione market as the only reduced glutathione available. VARS Liposomal Glutathione provides its user with boosts of energy, mental clarity, and immune system support. VARS Liposomal Glutathione is so potent we are looking at pharmaceutical approvals for its many health indications.
Soon after, we came out with MTHFR Endure, MTHFR Renew, and MTHFR Tiny Vite (smaller dose version for children) to supplement the various MTHFR genetic errors. These products are packed with the correct forms of B Vitamins and other key amino acids designed to support even the most intense cases of MTHFR. For more information about the differences between MTHFR Endure and MTHFR Renew, please visit the blog post Do I Need MTHFR Renew or MTHFR Endure?
Our next product was Copper Balance, a unique and patented blend of minerals, vitamins, and amino acids to support dysfunctional metallothioneins. Dr. Purser discovered, with help from naturopath practitioners, that those with fibromyalgia are unable to process copper and zinc properly. Blood serum levels may show normal or high levels of copper, but their intracellular levels show extreme deficiencies! These patients were getting all the copper they needed from their diet, but because of metallothioneins (dysfunctional proteins) their cells were unable to take in copper and became starved rendering them unable to perform at their normal efficiency. This leads to buildups of copper in various places around the body causing severe pain and discomfort.
We recommend starting the ‘Low Copper Diet’ and starting Copper Balance along with VARS Liposomal Glutathione. We have seen almost instantaneous effects relieving symptoms of fibromyalgia while also healing the gut! The detox capabilities of VARS Liposomal Glutathione helps to lower the toxic levels of heavy metals in the body including copper buildups. Fibromyalgia is a great example of why it’s important to check both blood serum levels and intracellular micronutrient levels!
You can learn more about the Low Copper Diet and other great tips from the Facebook page End Fibromyalgia with Natural Options run by Lois Schweigert, a longtime friend and follower of Dr. Purser and his protocols.
The latest product we developed is Brain Support PQQ+CoQ10. The cardiac and cerebral benefits of both PQQ and CoQ10 are immense. PQQ works mainly in the mitochondria of the cells in the brain and around the body. PQQ helps the processes in the mitochondria so much that it also causes new mitochondria to grow in aging cells.
If you remember back to your days of high school biology, you may have learned that the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell, so helping that powerhouse be productive has great benefits for the cells and the brain! PQQ also protects nerve cells, improves cognitive function and can help alleviate stress! PQQ paired with CoQ10 has amazing cardiovascular benefits as well. Brain Support PQQ+CoQ10 used in conjunction with VARS Liposomal Glutathione provides the ultimate baseline cognitive and preventative support for those genetic errors that can cause dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Physician Designed Supplements are made to work well together. Everyone can benefit from both VARS Liposomal Glutathione and Brain Support PQQ+CoQ10. Those with MTHFR specifically will have great benefits of MTHFR Endure, MTHFR Renew, and MTHFR Tiny Vite. Copper Balance is showing to be more than just for fibromyalgia. If you have any kind of metallothionein dysfunction, it is made for you.
